Property and Evidence

The Property and Evidence Unit is responsible for the intake and preservation of evidence and any other property collected by deputies of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

How to Claim Your Property

▸Property seized as “evidence” in a criminal investigation requires a Court Order and/or authorization from the case deputy/investigator for release. Defendants should have their attorney navigate this process.

▸Property collected as “found property” can be claimed without case deputy authorization if the owner’s information was provided by the collecting deputy.

▸Proof of ownership may be required!

▸It is recommended to have your report number and/or the case deputy’s name available. It will help expedite inquiries and releases.

Appointments are required! To schedule an appointment, please call (270) 842-1633 and request to speak with the Evidence Technician.

▸Government issued identification is required at the time of the release of any property. (Example: driver’s license or state issued ID card).

▸A background check will be done on any person claiming a firearm. Firearms cannot be released to ineligible persons under the restrictions of United States Code Title 18.

▸Property held in excess of 90 days after the owner/claimant has been notified that it is available for release will be treated as unclaimed/abandoned and may be disposed.
